Sample Projects

The projects and collaborations listed below are samples of the storytelling projects that I have been involved in over the last ten years. They all share a common goal of expressing stories that often go unheard.
The hear/say project (co-creator, editor and event director) began as a collaboration between the Memory and Aging Center (MAC) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Voice of Witness in 2016. The goal was to create a space for people with dementia, carers, doctors, family members, researchers, nurses, artists, and others to share “stories of aging, dementia, art, work, and life.” The first volume was published in 2017. The second volume of hear/say was published in 2019. The hear/say project also presented several Reader's Theater-style public storytelling events.

Tibetan Resettlement Stories: Voices of Boston
(project consultant). Second-generation Tibetans, members of the Tibetan Resettlement Stories project, conducted these interviews and worked with editors, translators, and designers to produce this book. Embedded in every page is the deeply shared dedication to freedom inside Tibet, a guiding hope shared across all ages and backgrounds.

In & Out of Shadows (director and oral history trainer). A musical by famed Chicano writer Gary Soto based on interviews with Bay Area DREAMers, who dream and despair as they navigate the shadows of immigration policies. Set to a vibrant musical score, this San Francisco Youth Theatre production tells the story of what it feels like to be undocumented.
